This summer he took the VQ up a 20km alpine trail near Rieding, in Styria, Austria: two riders on board, over 200kg between them, mixed road and off-road terrain, all the way up to a mountain hut and back down.
It made the trip alongside a group of 10 to 15 petrol quads in the 1,000cc class, on the same route, at the same pace, from start to finish. No adjustments, no allowances made for the electric bike.
The VQ set off on a full charge and rolled back into the valley with 35% charge, in temperatures of 30 to 32 degrees Celsius. The battery, motor, and controller all stayed well within their normal operating range throughout. The test was recorded as a complete success.
One alpine trail in Austria is not a working farm, but it is a fair way to find out what the VQ can take without complaint.
